I am an instructor in Germany, always looking for new ideas to use during my intermediate to advanced step classes. I was very happy to come across Philip Gray Step and Workout Videos last year. In Philip's new Video / DVD Step Temptation and Hi-Low Revelation you will be guided step by step to personal success. In the Step section Philip presents a fun workout which starts with a great warm-up followed by a total body before-the-workout stretch. Then he will put three wonderful, well balanced, fun, and tap-free combos which he teaches extremely well. Philip's cueing and break down skills are excellent. He announces the next step just on time to give you just the right time to hear the cue and to process it in your head, leading every serious intermediate to advanced stepper, as I said before, to wonderful success. Starting with easy basic moves, he will take you through mambos, pivots, stomps and other really fun moves which go over and across the bench with various rhythm and directional changes. Some of the moves were new to me (I have been doing Step since it came out during the mid 80's-wooden steps, remember?), Some are tricky but then, Philip will repeat and teach them so well that every one should be able to get them. Then all three combos are put together and finally the final round will go all the way from the top even including the warm-up. It is very nice to find among his "backup babes" people who represent the different types of individuals, as you will find them in real life when you workout out in a gym. Every body is having a great time on this video following Philips joyful personality. It is like the fun does not end! The Hi-Low Revelation section is just as fun, well presented, and well conducted as the step section. At the end of both workouts you will cool down and have a 10 minute Quick Fix Abs section which will challenge even the most advanced participants!!!! I got the DVD which allows you to just click back and forth from one chapter to another giving you the opportunity to just mix and match the workout as you want and need it.
All in one an excellent investment!

I have done the step section and the low-impact section once, and I really have positive things to say about both. The step section already rates up there with CIA 9701 as my favorite step workout. There is nothing killer about it, but it is fun and well put together. Andre is incredibly easy to follow, and he has a great sense of rhythm. His choreography matches the music (which sounds Caribbean in parts) perfectly. It is dancy in terms of the "joy of movement," but not hard to do. I think that the perfection of Andre's cuing disguises how creative his choreography is. He has some power moves (jump-ups, lunges), but it was mostly low-impact step work. If you are looking for Cathe-style power stepping, you will not find it here. If you thought 9701 was boring, you will probably be bored by this as well. I absolutely thought it was wonderful, although I may go to an 8" step to up the intensity a bit. Even on a 6" step, I worked up a good sweat, and the time flew by. This one will become a personal favorite of mine.
The low-impact portion has convinced me that it is impossible to make a high-intensity low impact floor tape when you have limited space. This tape is solidly intermediate level for me, and my heart rate stayed at about 65%. If you have more room than I do, you could probably take the intensity up a notch. That said, I think that this is an excellent intermediate floor tape, and is better than even Donna-Mite in fun-factor. Andre makes it easy to follow his relatively complex steps, and he puts together his choreography very well with his music.
I did not do the toning section, but this tape is worth the money for the step and low-impact portions. I will pre-order anything else with Andre in it in the future. He is a gem.

Instructor comments: I really, really liked him. He was encouraging, but not obnoxious, and really seemed to enjoy his job. He would be easy to face in the wee hours of the morning.

The 37-minute step segment begins with a 9- minute warm-up followed by an intermediate workout with some different, innovative steps. Some moves: walking the bench, repeater pony, two taps straddle on both sides, a jump and squat going across the step followed by a knee-up, and a 3-count backward pogo.
After the heartrate check, he starts with new moves, including mambo/shuffle/march; tap around the world; back shuffle around the step, similar to Step Fit; a baseball move he calls 'safe'. He only does the entire combo from the top only one time - so it was not repetitive. I really enjoyed it and will do it again.
The 27-minute low impact was too low for me with lots of marches in place. It starts with a 7-minute warm-up and you need lots of space (count eight steps forward and you can get an idea). There are lots of marches and pivots, grapevines, step touches, and box steps - very basic and easy to learn. After the heartrate check, again, Andre does all new combos to keep it fresh. There is a fast rhythm grapevine, and a cute move called the 'bus stop.' Again, he puts it all together on both sides only once, followed by a 2-minute cooldown.
I enjoyed the toning with the tubing - he keeps your feet busy with squats and lunges using the step. Working chest, shoulders, biceps, triceps (dips, too), I got a good workout in 18 minutes for the upper body to do on an easy day. The ab work was only 4 minutes and the final stretch only 2 minutes.
I really like Andre and hope he makes more advanced workouts. Forgot to mention that Maria Latran (from some of Cathe's tapes) and Heather Day are the background exercisers. He mentioned that Maria had a baby eight months ago (maybe that's why she was missing on Cathe's tapes) and she certainly looks great. In a nutshell: the step workout is intermediate and the low impact, probably very low intermediate.
Instructor comments: I loved Andre's tough hi/lo segment on CIA 2002. He was also a semi-regular on Joannie Greggains' Morning Stretch in the early eighties. Great cueing, very likeable. He should make advanced videos.

Many alliances with third world dictators, ostensibly of mutual benefit, reduce incentives to govern for prosperity and produce instead political and social instability and economic failure. Yet again, in the war on terror and in the name of preserving global stability, America is backing authoritarian regimes that practice repression and plunder. It is as if the cold war never ended.While espousing freedom and democracy, the U.S. contradicts itself by aiding governments that do not share those values.

In addition to undercutting its own stated goal of promoting freedom, America makes the developing world even more wary of its intentions. Yes, the democracy we preach arouses aspirations and attracts immigrants, but those same individuals become our sternest critics; having learned to admire American values, they end up deploring U.S. policies toward their own countries. Long term U.S. security is jeopardized by a legacy of resentment and distrust. "Alliance Curse" proposes an analytical foundation for national security that challenges long-held assumptions about foreign affairs. It questions the wisdom of diplomacy that depends on questionable linkages or outdated suppositions. The end of the Soviet Union did not portend the demise of communism, for example. Democracy and socialism are not incompatible systems. Promoting democracy by linking it with free trade risks overemphasizing the latter goal at the expense of the former. The growing tendency to play China against India in an effort to retain American global supremacy will hamper relations with both--an intolerable situation in today's interdependent world. Root buttresses his analysis with case studies of American foreign policy toward developing countries (e.g., Vietnam), efforts at state building, and nations growing in importance, such as China. He concludes with a series of recommendations designed to close the gap between security and economic development

d Blaine, an American illusionist and endurance artist always surprise us with his stunts every now and then. He is well known for his street magic and endurance tests which shows a spectacle of his limitless capacity to break several world records. One of his known magic feats is levitation.
Levitation is a paranormal phenomenon with no scientific basis which includes a man’s act of rising himself above the floor without anything to hold on and elevate into. The person levitating is merely seen as almost flying in the air.
But this levitation trick is now revealed. They are saying that the audience should be seated at 45 degree angle to see only one foot. Then the trickster must lift one foot above the ground a few inches away while balancing his weight on the second foot. As one foot is lifted, the second foot gains weight of the body and is not shown in front of the audience.
A magician also may cheat by levitating light objects into the air on an invisible thread like levitating a leaf on the trickster’s head in which invisible thread are hinged on to. These kinds of threads are often commercially sold in the market where magic equipments are found.

This one is brought to you by Jason Edwards author of the popular internet 3D comic strip Outlaws Tales. Luckily for us Jason has just finished a series for the Discovery channel and has kindly consented to spend some time working with SimplyMaya to bring us a series of new tutorials the first of which we present to you in our new Hi Definition video format.

Simply Maya brings you this brand new 14 part hardsurface modelling and texturing tutorial in conjunction with Outlaws Tales. The tutorial is aimed at people who have an understanding of the fundamentals of Maya, Photoshop and Zbrush.
The project begins by setting up image plains in Maya to use as a reference guide for the start of the model, then gets straight to business by blocking out the basic forms using polygons. The following chapters then take you through an overview of a modelling process to help you finish the vehicle off. Techniques such as looking at real world references, path extrusion, radial placement and mesh extraction of objects are covered here as well as the standard modelling tools of Maya.
Once the majority of modelling is over its time to begin setting up the model for texturing and how to set up a uv map and optimise it in Maya's Texture editor. On completion of the uv map the next chapters look at creating texture maps to help give the model a more realistic look. As well as using Photoshop for this process, you'll be introduced to Zbrush. Using both programs separately and also in unison, you'll see how to quickly achieve good looking textures.
In the final chapters the textures are placed onto the model ready for rendering in a scene using just a 2d image as a background and a ground plane for shadowing. Then, rendering using Mental Rays Final Gather and a few spotlights, an overview is given showing how to make the Vehicle 'fit' into the 2d backdrop, similar to techniques used in motion pictures and television.

With the dramatic changes now in Blender 2.5 builds, everything from the beautiful new interface to custom key maps, there is a lot of information to wrap your head around. Having treaded the waters of Blender training for the past two years, we at CG Cookie strive to give you the very best. Instructor Jonathan Williamson will introduce you to this years Blender and walk you through how to use it in our training series.

Part 1 - Interface and Navigation
The first steps to becoming comfortable with Blender is understanding the interface and mastering navigation of the 3D view. This series will take you through a tour of the main aspects of Blenderâs interface, how to navigate in 3D space and show you ways to customize your experience in Blender.

Part 2 - Intro to Modeling
Once you have grasped Blenderâs interface and navigation it is time to begin learning about objects and how to manipulate and modify them. Through this section you will be given an introduction to working with objects in Blender and how to use basic modeling tools to modify their shape. You will also be given a rundown of what modifiers are and how they can be used to extend your modeling functionality.

Part 3 - Animation
Often times, after you have created a model you want to make it move. This series will guide you through the animation interface, basic keyframing and even rigging of objects with armatures.

Part 4 - Lighting and Rendering
In order to display your model it is necessary to illuminate it with lights and define how you want Blender to output your image. This section will help you understand basic lighting in Blender, working with the camera, adjusting the render properties, and how to modify the background sky/environment in your scene.

Part 5 - Materials and Textures
Upon modeling and lighting your model it is time to add materials and textures to define the look and feel of your object. This last portion to the beginner series will take you through the steps needed to adjust the color, specularity, reflectiveness and other aspects of your modelâs appearance. It will also show you how to take it a notch further by adding procedural or image textures for more variety and control.

The Sysinternals Video Library (published by David Solomon Expert Seminars) is set of six DVDs that cover essential Windows troubleshooting topics (note: these are DVD videos - they can be played on any DVD player; to play them on XP, you must have additional DVD playback software installed).

Each video is personally presented by Mark Russinovich (Technical Fellow at Microsoft) and David Solomon (noted Windows internals expert and trainer), authors of the official Microsoft Press book on the Windows operating system, Windows Internals. They are known from past Microsoft conferences to be especially informative and entertaining when presenting together. One customer wrote after viewing the set:

The DVDs are high quality clear video and audio. Each video is presented by both Mark Russinovich and David Solomon sitting side by side each with a laptop in front of them. The audio is in stereo with one of them on the left speaker and the other on the right (a nice touch). The videos are very hands on with David and Mark using VMWare to demonstrate each of the tools and problems. The presenters do a great job at zooming into the video at the appropriate moments so that you can see the commands being typed, or the output of a command.
